Employment Opportunity: Court Mediator I/II

COURT MEDIATOR I/II EMPLOYMENT FLYER

The Court Mediator will report to the Court Executive Officer and will perform a variety of functions independently under the general direction of the CEO. Responsibilities encompass both mediator and counselor roles, primarily in the area of family law. Incumbents may need to conduct investigations to be able to mediate disputes.

Incumbents work independently under general direction with priorities determined by caseloads and court schedules. Pre-established policies, procedures, standards, and legislation are in place; however, the nature of dispute resolution involves achieving results in the absences of easily applied rules. The work requires analysis and evaluation of problems with available alternative solutions and may involve the occasional development of new techniques and procedures.

A successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organization and with the public, provide excellent customer service, and be technologically adept. A successful candidate should also demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, establish effective client relationships, assess domestic violence and related family dynamics, communicate and interact in situations requiring instructing, persuading,
consulting, counseling, and motivating clients. Additionally, incumbents should be able to understand and apply statutes, family case law, and rules of court, with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and summarize information into comprehensive written reports and recommendations to the court, sometimes extending to the ability to testify in court regarding these reports and recommendations.
